A part of my trip in southern California included San Diego in May. I visited San Diego Bay and Mission Beach and Bay. It was foggy in the morning, but cleared up in the afternoon. I saw several birds close to water.

Brown Pelican Breeding Adult

Brown Pelican Juveniles have white bellies.

Double-crested Cormorant was catching fish under the water.

American Crow was at my hotel window.

Osprey

Between First Winter and Second Winter Western Gull

Western Gull Breeding Adult has pink legs which helps distinguish it from other gulls.
Identifying Gulls can be tricky. From juvenile to adult they change colors and pattern and different species look very much alike without close study.

House Sparrow Male is making a nest between the roof tiles on a beach house.

House Sparrow Female
I was only in San Diego for a short time – too short to see many wonderful types of birds located in that area. I would have liked to see more shore birds but that would have to wait for the next stop on my trip.
