Bolsa Chica part 2

Foster's Tern

Foster’s Tern

This is Part 2 of my trip to Bolsa Chica in southern California in late May 2021. It was a windy, sunny day but I saw lots of different birds. See the Bolsa Chica Part 1 blog post for photos of some of the birds. See below for additional photos.

Here are some birds I saw:

Great Blue Heron

Great Blue Heron is going for the big one! After he poked the stingray a lot, he finally got it in his mouth. Swallowing was a different problem.

Killdeer

A Killdeer has 2 black breast bands.

Long-billed Curlew

Long-billed Curlew has a partly pink and partly dark bill.

Double-crested Cormorant

American Crow?

American Crow? I’d never seen crows carrying fish before. There are Fish Crows but they are on the Gulf and East coasts.

Horned Lark

Horned Lark fluffs its wings.

Mallard Females

Cliff Swallow

Cliff Swallows were skimming the water surface. It was rare to see them sit still.

Bolsa Chica Information

I visited Sunset Beach in Huntington Beach California before the summer vacation season started. There were only a few surfers on the beach in the morning hours.

・6 am – 8 pm

・There’s a restroom at the parking lot.

There are other animals too.
