It’s spring! I don’t see Northern Flickers as much lately, but they are still around.
I’d like to share photos I took at a park along the American River in fall and winter in Sacramento, California. The park is close to a residential area and you’ll see people jogging, bicycling, walking dogs, and horseback riding there.
The area around the river supports a diverse bird population.

Drive about 90 mins from San Francisco
I parked at Harrington Way. Don’t forget cash for parking fee: $5.
There are some public restroom at parking lots.
I recommend hiking boots because of varied terrain. Take your water bottle!
